Family Eldercare's Larson honored with 2014 Boots on the Ground Award

Austin attorney Christine P. “Chris” Larson is the 2014 recipient of the James B. Sales Boots on the Ground Award. The annual award, which recognizes exemplary pro bono or legal services program attorneys, was presented May 13 in Austin during the 2014 Champions of Justice Gala Benefiting Veterans. Governor Perry Names Hecht as Chief Justice of Texas Supreme Court

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Justice Nathan L. Hecht of Austin as chief justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. Justice Hecht's term will be effective Oct. 1, 2013, and is set to expire at the next general election. He will serve as the 27th chief justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. More »

Chief Justice: Delay Action on Bill Limiting Pro Se Divorce Forms

Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Wallace Jefferson has asked lawmakers to delay taking action on House Bill2878, which targets the controversial pro se divorce forms promulgated by the high court. Lawmakers and Judge Push for Legal Aid Funding

Funding for civil legal aid has dried up over the last few years, and a group of lawyers and lawmakers including Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht are calling for a new source of revenue. They want the Legislature to approve an extra $40 million in funding from the state attorney general's office, which would be given to legal services groups that help indigent individuals who cannot afford a lawyer for their divorces, foreclosures or other legal issues. More »
